Working in partnership with a local charity, we are delighted that the children of St Mary's were once again able to enjoy a day of African drumming workshops. The children were learning from an experienced and talented performer and every class made great progress. We finished the day with a whole School performance and celebration. The children also learned about West African culture and the importance of Drumming throughout the History of the region.
Every class enjoyed a special day focusing on Maths Investigations and Problem Solving - a great way to deepen the children's mathematical understanding and for them to apply their reasoning and arithmetic skills. This half term we focused on 'Trial and Improvement' - having a go and learning from every attempt! Well done to all of the children who completed the Home Learning Extra Challenge - more than 30 children got the answer correct!
Our Harvest Festival was sadly the last School Worship led by Father Steve as he retires. We wish him all the very best in his retirement and thank him for 12 years of leading the school in worship. Father Steve has been very active in many areas of school life as a School Governor and we will miss him. We presented him with gifts and a special book made by the children, whilst 2 children from Year 5 gave a special speech.
