Community Languages
Language of the Week
Our School Community speak more than 45 languages and each week we learn how to say hello in a different language. Children and staff that speak the language introduce this in our Monday worship and our Young Leaders ensure the greeting is displayed around the school.
English as an Additional Language
Our Library contains many dual language books, enabling children new to English to see their language represented and supporting their acquisition of English.
Chinese New Year
As part of our celebrations, parents came into School to teach the Children how to write Chinese characters.
Language Leaders
St. Mary's is proud of the diverse and multi-cultural background of our families. Sometimes, when families first arrive in the UK, language can be a real barrier to obtaining information and settling in. It can be very hard and isolating for parents and children. St. Mary's has created a database of language leaders amongst our parents, pupils and staff who speak other languages and may be able to help with newly arrived families to translate and support them. If you would like to become a parent language leader please contact the School Office.
