Responsibility

We are responsible for ourselves, the choices we make and our learning. In addition, we are responsible for others in our local community and we have a responsibility for our global community and the environment, as we all share one planet. On this page you will find lots of links to resources and ideas to help you explore and reflect on the value of Responsibility. You will also see many examples of this value in action at St Mary's.

Responsibility

Genesis 1:27 ‘God said to human beings, 'Fill the earth with people and look after it. Care for all that I have made'.

2 Timothy 1:7 ‘For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Values in Action

Courageous Advocacy
Children, staff and parents at St Mary’s have chosen community projects to support, in order to make a positive change and give hope to their local, national or global community. The children planned how to engage in social action and to make it a sustainable, ongoing project.

Food Bank
Congratulations to our Year 3 class who have been collecting food donations to support those in need in our local community. Building on the success of our annual Harvest Collection, the children decided to make this an ongoing project, recognising that there are people in need throughout the year. Year 3 class have made posters and visited each class to encourage contributions. When their box was full up, a group of children took the food to St Mary's Church ready for distribution. The children will continue to welcome any donations of tinned or dried goods - please help if you can.

River Clean Up Project
Year 3 and Year 4 were really disappointed to see how much rubbish they noticed in the river on the way to their Swimming lessons each week and really wanted to take responsibility and do something about it! So, they went down to Ladywell Fields and dressed up in special waders and gloves, ready to help the community by removing rubbish from the river. They filled up lots of heavy duty sacks with the rubbish they found, including lots of plastic, a towel, a shoe, cans, bottles and many more items!
