PE & Sport Premium at St Mary’s CE School
At St Mary’s CE School, we believe that physical education, sport and physical activity play a vital role in the development and wellbeing of every child. Guided by our Christian values of love, respect, peace, forgiveness, responsibility and faith we use the PE & Sport Premium to promote healthy lifestyles, confidence and encourage lifelong participation in physical activity.
What is the PE & Sport Premium?
The PE & Sport Premium is additional government funding provided to improve the quality of physical education and sport in primary schools. It is intended to ensure that improvements to PE and sport are sustainable and benefit pupils both now and in the future.
Our Vision for PE and Sport
Through high-quality PE and sporting opportunities, we aim to ensure that all pupils:
- Experience enjoyment and achievement in physical activity
- Develop confidence, resilience and courage to challenge themselves
- Learn to show respect and teamwork in competitive and non-competitive sport
- Understand the importance of health, fitness and wellbeing
- Build positive habits that support an active, healthy lifestyle
We believe that PE and sport contribute to pupils’ physical, emotional and social development, supporting success across the wider curriculum.
How We Use the PE & Sport Premium
Funding is used strategically to reflect our values and to meet the needs of our pupils. This may include:
- High-quality PE teaching through staff training and specialist support
- Increased participation in a wide range of sports and physical activities
- Inclusive provision, ensuring all pupils can access and enjoy PE and sport
- Opportunities for competition, teamwork and leadership
- Enrichment activities, clubs and events that broaden pupils’ experiences
All spending decisions are carefully considered to ensure value for money and long-term impact.
Inclusion and Equal Access
In line with our values of love and respect, we ensure that all pupils — including those with additional needs or disadvantages — are supported to take part fully in PE and sport. Adaptations and targeted support are provided where necessary so that every child feels confident, included and succesful.
Measuring Impact and Sustainability
We evaluate the impact of the PE & Sport Premium by:
- Monitoring pupil participation and engagement
- Assessing improvements in PE teaching and staff confidence
- Gathering pupil voice and feedback
- Reviewing the sustainability of provision beyond the funding period
Our focus is on creating lasting improvements that benefit pupils year after year.
Accountability and Governance
School leaders and governors take responsibility for ensuring that the PE & Sport Premium is used effectively and in line with national guidance. They regularly review spending and impact to ensure the funding supports pupils’ health, wellbeing and achievement.

Working with Families
We recognise the importance of working in partnership with families to promote healthy lifestyles. We encourage parents and carers to support physical activity beyond the school day and to engage with school sporting events and opportunities wherever possible.
