The children in Year 6 have been thinking about what Race Equality means to them. Listen to their reflective, powerful and thoughtful responses below, we are very proud of the next generation of leaders from St Mary's.
Listen to our Year 6 children advertising the amazing spy gadgets that they have created. But don't tell anyone - it's TOP SECRET!!!
Year 6 have been researching the many different Religions that are celebrated in our diverse borough of Lewisham. They have created these beautifully created and informative Powerpoint presentations to summarise what they have learned.
We are very excited to have received these wonderful photos of our Year 6 children learning at home. Please send us a photo to admin@st-marys.lewisham.sch.uk and we will publish your learning for everyone to enjoy!
Early one morning, Year 6 came into school and discovered someone had made a mess in their classroom; the person left a note, which had got wet. Therefore, they decided to become budding detectives. The used a variety of apparatus to separate the mixtures on the tables in order to clear them up. Once they had cleared up the mess, they use their skills in chromatography to find out what pen was used to write the note.
This term, we wanted to create our own board game. Taking inspiration from the famous game ‘Guess Who’, we talked about the main features; we came up with the idea to create a maths game to improve our knowledge of place value and named it ‘Guess My Number/ What’s My Number?’. Following this, we created a prototype of our board game. To make sure our prototype was functional and appealing to children of our age, we created flaps (moveable parts) and stops.
We had a fantastic time learning the African Art of Storytelling thanks to IROKO Theater Company. Alex, who was our instructor for the day, taught us about why story telling was important in African cultures and many cultures across the world. Storytelling was how morals and history was passed through generations (preserving culture). We learnt some of the key elements needed to be a great storyteller such as voice projection, props, repetition, enthusiasm, choral speaking and expression.
We enjoyed learning about the differences between and within cultures. We explored what foods are eaten in the Caribbean Islands and even got to make our own fritters.
