Fun in the sun at our Forest Friends session this week! We sang songs, made ribbon sticks and explored our wonderful forest space.
Our sessions for pre-school age children will resume on Thursday 8 June after the half term break. Reception class had lots of fun in the Forest School garden playing noughts and crosses with foraged materials.
More lovely photos to share from our free Thursday morning drop-in sessions for pre-school children in our Forest School area.
The sun has been shining on us and we have been busy exploring the Forest School area and planting sunflower seeds and cuttings to take home. It is a wonderful opportunity for parents and youngsters - however small - to be able to enjoy the space, learn some skills and share experiences. All are welcome. Meet at 9am in the School Office every Thursday! Year One had fun learning about plants that attract bees and planting them around the school. We learnt how bees are very important for our environment.
Our first session of stay and play in our new forest space started today with some songs and included a hunt for pine cones!
It was lovely to see some of the younger members of our community enjoying the forest space and exploring all the areas it has to offer. Some nursery children joined us too. After 30 minutes it was time to have a healthy snack and a warm cup of coffee. These sessions are ideal for pre-school children to start socialising and enjoying a safe outdoor space. Stay & Play Forest Friends will run every Thursday morning. Sessions are free and all are welcome. Meet in the school office after school drop-off!
It was an honour for St Mary’s to celebrate the Grand Opening of our Community Forest School. We had the pleasure of welcoming many guests, including Bishop Karowei as well as the Mayor of Lewisham, Damien Egan, who officially opened our Community Forest School Garden.
Thanks to our Year 6 pupils for showing the values of Responsibility and Teamwork to help prepare the garden for some Spring planting.
We want as many people as possible in our Community to enjoy the benefits of our Forest School, so we were pleased to host local teachers for a training session led by a Forest School Leader.
