Reception have been lucky enough to have the Iroko Theatre Company visit them for six weekly sessions. These highly interactive sessions included learning to construct a story with accompanying actions and movements. One session was a drumming lesson, where children had to remember instructions to know when and what to play. Never has learning been so much fun!
The children were entranced by the hilarious characters, over the top costumes and funky dance music. They're already looking forward to next year's show!
We are very excited to have received these wonderful photos of our Reception class children learning at home. Please send us a photo to admin@st-marys.lewisham.sch.uk and we will publish your learning for everyone to enjoy!
Reception have been getting into the spirit of Christmas. They've learnt to wrap presents and write cards in the Elves' Workshop, practised their counting skills and even made some soup for Santa's reindeers. A child drew a pastel portrait of Santa to make sure we recognised him when he visited.
Reception have been having a hentastic time in class. After joining in with retelling the story of the Little Red Hen with actions, they have been busy feeding hens, making puppets based on the story and cooking in the hen's very own bakery. They talked about how the hen was feeling after all her hard work and used their knowledge of sounds to write speech bubbles for her.
We are very excited to have received some wonderful photos of Home Learning. We would love to see some more photos of Reception class learning at home, so that we can add them to the Hall Of Fame; please send your pictures to: admin@st-marys.lewisham.sch.uk.
Children in the Reception class have been reading ‘The Enormous Turnip’. The children have enjoyed using the small world characters to verbally retell the story and they have enthusiastically joined in with the repeated refrains. Alongside using a turnip to look at, feel and smell, the children have also been decorating turnips. Next week we are going to make vegetable soup.
Reception class had a wonderful time visiting St Mary’s Church. The children spent time exploring the inside of the church and noticed many things like the statues of Mother Mary and the beautiful stained glass windows that depicted different stories from the Bible. Father Steffan read the Nativity story and we sang a hymn. Before heading back to school we had a tour around the Spiritual Garden.
Reception class enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill. The children enjoyed exploring and discovering a wide range of animals. There was also an opportunity to try on animal masks, before meeting the animals outside. Well done to all of the children for their excellent behaviour and thank you to the parents who joined us to help make it a successful visit.
