We've been taking part in lots of activities to mark Road Safety Week this week. Children in the Nursery have been learning to 'Stop, look and listen', while they hold an adult's hand when they cross the road, as well as enjoying playing with the traffic small world.'
Thank you to all our Nursery parents who braved torrential rain to come to the first Reading Friday of this term. The children were thrilled to have their parents in Nursery and share their favourite stories.
Nursery have been discovering what exactly pirates do, as well as learning some pirate talk like 'Ooaar me hearties' and 'Yo ho ho'. They have gone on adventures in their pirate ship and have been looking for buried treasure.
Nursery children have been finding out about how the Lunar New Year is celebrated. They prepared meals in the Chinese Restaurant Role Play, practised painting chinese numerals and celebrated with a dragon dance. What fun!
Nursery children have learned a lot about a different culture and a different environment based on the story "Handa's Surprise". We went on a wild animal hunt outside as well as trying to walk with baskets on our heads. We also tasted some of the tropical fruits Handa carried in her basket.
Nursery children have been finding out about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. They made rangoli patterns and mehndi patterns on their hands, as well as developing their Indian dancing skills.
'Nursery children prepared for the Coronation by making crowns and cucumber sandwiches, having tea parties and dressing up as royalty!
Nursery have had a cracking start to this half term! They practised their pancake tossing skills while learning lots of new cooking words.
Children have also enjoyed driving the new bus parked in the classroomm as part of our transport topic. Nursery children made the most of the snowy weather this week to make snow people in the outside area.
Children in Nursery learned about life cycles as they carefully observed chicks and ducklings hatching from their eggs. The children learned how to care for the babies, providing them with food, water and shelter. The children were thrilled when they watched their ducklings swimming for the first time in a tray of water!
