Nursery children made the most of the snowy weather this week to make snow people in the outside area.
Children in Nursery learned about life cycles as they carefully observed chicks and ducklings hatching from their eggs. The children learned how to care for the babies, providing them with food, water and shelter. The children were thrilled when they watched their ducklings swimming for the first time in a tray of water!

Nursery have been looking at special days and how our families celebrate birthdays, Bonfire Night, Diwali and Christmas. We had fun at Kipper's birthday party, made patterns for Diwali, blew bubbles, painted fireworks and learnt about the Nativity story. It was a busy half term, we are more settled on the carpet, eager to learn and we have made close friendships. On our first days in Nursery, we have explored the resources, learned the rules of the classroom and we have made friends. We have been reading the book 'Here We Are', learning about space, planets and how wonderful Earth is. It showed us how important it is to be nice and look after each other. We have been building rockets, making aliens out of playdough and designing our own imaginary planet. "My planet looks like Saturn!" Summya "I have built the biggest rocket!" Murat "My alien has got 3 eyes!" Ada We are very excited to have received these wonderful photos of our Nursery children learning at home. These superstars have been practising their phonics sounds, building colourful models and drawing their favourite transport.
This week in Nursery we have been introducing our Talk for Writing text, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We made porridge and then voted on whether or not we liked it. The children used the recipe to inform them of the steps. We cut up bananas and put them on as our topping. We had to be careful as the porridge was very HOT! Once we had tasted it we added our picture to our pictograph. We found out that most children in Nursery class like porridge!
Nursery Class celebrated all of the amazing Diversity in our world. We looked for the colours of the rainbow within our classroom, both inside and out. We made some colour palettes and spoke about the different items that we found.
“These flowers are yellow!” “This is green, in our garden. This plant.” “There is no pink outside, we have to look in the classroom.” Nursery Class finished their Paws and Claws topic by inviting their Teddies into Nursery for the day. The children prepared for the big day by making invitations for their teddy bears and party decorations. On the day, the children confidently spoke about their teddy bears and enjoyed playing with them, with their friends. We made jam sandwiches and had a picnic in the classroom before doing some dancing with our bears.
“His name is Carrie. My daddy gave him to me.” “It’s not a teddy bear. It’s name is Minnie. I have a Sister Minnie and a Mummy Minnie too. Mummy Minnie is the biggest and this Minnie is the smallest.” “I love the jam sandwiches, I want to make them again!” This week in Nursery our learning has been focused around the story book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We have been learning to re-tell the story using our story map. We thought about what we would need to pack in our bags if we were going to go on a bear hunt, we made binoculars to look for bears and we explored swishy swashy grass in our sensory tray. On Thursday we found some bear tracks in our garden. The children have enjoyed using our garden to re-tell the story!
“I need wellies to get through the mud.” William “I think they belong to the big bear.” Jayda “I don’t want the bear to eat us, we have to get back to our house!” Tani |
