We are very excited to have received these wonderful photos of our Nursery children learning at home. These superstars have been practising their phonics sounds, building colourful models and drawing their favourite transport.
This week in Nursery we have been introducing our Talk for Writing text, Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We made porridge and then voted on whether or not we liked it. The children used the recipe to inform them of the steps. We cut up bananas and put them on as our topping. We had to be careful as the porridge was very HOT! Once we had tasted it we added our picture to our pictograph. We found out that most children in Nursery class like porridge!
Nursery Class celebrated all of the amazing Diversity in our world. We looked for the colours of the rainbow within our classroom, both inside and out. We made some colour palettes and spoke about the different items that we found.
“These flowers are yellow!” “This is green, in our garden. This plant.” “There is no pink outside, we have to look in the classroom.” Nursery Class finished their Paws and Claws topic by inviting their Teddies into Nursery for the day. The children prepared for the big day by making invitations for their teddy bears and party decorations. On the day, the children confidently spoke about their teddy bears and enjoyed playing with them, with their friends. We made jam sandwiches and had a picnic in the classroom before doing some dancing with our bears.
“His name is Carrie. My daddy gave him to me.” “It’s not a teddy bear. It’s name is Minnie. I have a Sister Minnie and a Mummy Minnie too. Mummy Minnie is the biggest and this Minnie is the smallest.” “I love the jam sandwiches, I want to make them again!” This week in Nursery our learning has been focused around the story book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. We have been learning to re-tell the story using our story map. We thought about what we would need to pack in our bags if we were going to go on a bear hunt, we made binoculars to look for bears and we explored swishy swashy grass in our sensory tray. On Thursday we found some bear tracks in our garden. The children have enjoyed using our garden to re-tell the story!
“I need wellies to get through the mud.” William “I think they belong to the big bear.” Jayda “I don’t want the bear to eat us, we have to get back to our house!” Tani This half-term Nursery class have been learning about different types of celebrations. We started by looking at Birthdays. We focused our learning around the book Kipper’s Birthday. The children have been very busy making birthday cards for Kipper, writing invitations to our party, wrapping presents for Kipper, decorating birthday biscuits and even playing party games! Nursery class had their first trip to Lewisham Library. We really enjoyed listening too, looking at and sharing stories with our parents. We can’t wait to share the books we choose to borrow back at Nursery.
Nursery Class have really enjoyed learning the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children have been acting the story out in a variety of ways. They particularly enjoyed building a strong house of bricks in the outside area and pretending to be the big bad wolf and the three little pigs.
“The brick house is too strong!” William “I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down!” Michael The new Nursery children have settled in quickly into their new environment and are making the most of all the learning opportunities. They are building strong friendships and are learning to use their language in order to communicate with each other.
Nursery class have been very busy observing our caterpillars. The children have been very motivated to record what they can see. This experience has supported our talk for writing and we have been learning the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Last week our caterpillars went into their cocoons. We are patiently waiting for our butterflies to emerge! Watch this space…
