We are very excited to have received these wonderful photos of our Year 5 children learning at home. Please send us a photo to admin@st-marys.lewisham.sch.uk and we will publish your learning for everyone to enjoy!
We are excited to share these amazing poems written by Salome and Min Xiu respectively. We hope they will inspire you to write and perform your own poetry.
We used some of the boxes of rice crispies that were in school to make these delicious chocolatey rice crispie cakes. We followed a recipe from BBC Good Food Guide if you want to try some at home too.
https://www.bbcgoodfoodme.com/recipes/chocolate-rice-krispie-cakes/ We mixed in some melted marshmallows too to make them extra chewy. Here is a photo of us playing 'Guess Who' at school. We were finding out about who it was designed for, what the aim of the game was and what parts you needed for it. We will design and make our own versions of the game. Here are some photos of Year 5 and 6 making their games! The year 6s showed fabulous teamwork and the year 5s took their time choosing the numbers they were using for their number cards. Here are some pictures of the final games that we created. We had lots of fun playing them!
Year 5 have been learning about portraits. We looked at different types of portraits, including police sketch artists' work and portraits by a person who has face blindness (she cannot recognise faces). We then tried some of our own. We found it really tricky to draw accurately and in detail but we are all making lots of progress!
In Maths, we have been enjoying using some new playing cards to investigate place value and rounding. We got competitive with each other and tried to see who could make the largest and smallest numbers to score points.
In Literacy, we have been learning to re-tell the story of 'Zelda Claw' in our new Talk for Writing Unit. As we follow our story map, we put actions to the words to help us remember the story.
We are very excited to have received some wonderful photos of Home Learning. We would love to see some more photos of Year 5 learning at home, so that we can add them to the Hall Of Fame; please send your pictures to: admin@st-marys.lewisham.sch.uk.
Year 5 have been exploring how to use charcoal to create different effects. Linking to their topic of Victorian Britain, they have designed these skylines of Smoky Cities.
