We are delighted to share our children's amazing Nativity performance of 'It's A Party'.
Our children were thrilled when Father Christmas took time out of his busy schedule to distribute Christmas Presents to every child at St Mary's! We were blessed to be joined at our annual Christmas lunch by elderly visitors from Bentley Court, Lloyd Court and the Glebe. The day started with a special performance of our wonderful Nativity show performed by our youngest children. Our visitors were guests of honour at our delicious Christmas lunch, before enjoying festive songs from our choir and refreshments in the Community Hub. Our talented choir performed at Lewisham Hospital and Lewisham Shopping Centre. They sung beautifully, bringing Christmas joy to our School Community. We enjoyed an amazing Christmas Fayre as all of the School community joined together for a wonderful event. Among the many activities were Santa’s grotto, Christmas raffle with 21 amazing prizes, food, drinks, live music, Choir performance, face painting, stalls and games. There were many outdoor games to enjoy including hook a duck, tombola, raffle, ring toss, balloon pop, coconut shy, football and tin can alley! Our Forest School was open for hot chocolate and marshmallows by the fire! There was so much to enjoy and we were delighted to have raised well over £2,000 for our School. All of the money raised will support the children in their learning. Thanks to all those that helped organise the event, especially to the Friends of St Mary’s. Congratulations to all of our children who practised hard, learnt their times table facts and took part in their class heats. 2 finalists from each class battled it out in front of the whole school to find our 2024 champions! The standard was incredibly high, with most of the finals going to tiebreakers as the excitement mounted. Our Eco Council (2 children from each class who were elected by their peers) have been busy visiting other schools and learning about ways to save energy and create a greener planet. Thank you to all of our parents and friends who have been active in planning our Christmas Fayre. At our Annual General Meeting, we elected out Chair / Vice-Chair / Treasurer and Fundraising Committee. We followed this up with a Present Wrapping morning - thanks to everyone who helped to wrap over 400 gifts! Children loved our Black History Month theme ‘Reclaiming Narratives’ and learnt about past and present BAME figures in history. They learnt how to cook African and Caribbean recipes and play the Djembe Drums. The month ended in the children wearing their traditional dress and celebrating their hair as part of our celebrations. Working in partnership with a local charity, we are delighted that the children of St Mary's were once again able to enjoy a day of African drumming workshops. The children were learning from an experienced and talented performer and every class made great progress. We finished the day with a whole School performance and celebration. The children also learned about West African culture and the importance of Drumming throughout the History of the region. |
