All the children were brilliant on the long journey to Osmington Bay PGL. When we arrived, they played games and had a tour of the PGL site before settling into their rooms. Last night, they had an indoor campfire with lots of singing and a big dinner of sausages and mash or chicken and chips. At bedtime, they were up chatting until really late because they were so happy and excited to be on holiday.
The children have slept well and are excited about the day. The weather is overcast and there is a good chance of rain but it will not spoil the fun. Today there is raft building, giant swing and aeroball. We are delighted to announce that SIAMS has rated St Mary's as an Outstanding (Excellent) Church School. Read their report below.
We all enjoyed a fantastic sports day at Ladywell Arena. The children took part in a variety of activities, such as the shot put, egg and spoon race, football dribble, sack race, long jump and racing on the running track. Thanks to our Sports Coach Mr Djieletientcheu for organising the events and training the children
The children planned and presented a special worship to highlight our ongoing Road Safety campaign. They gave an update on the actions taken so far and shared the actions that they are fighting for. The School Council handed our local Member of Parliament, Vicky Foxcroft, a petition that they have prepared, containing over 500 signatures. The worship included drama and poetry, written by the children. The Bible reading was from Hebrews 11:1 “Faith makes us sure of what we hope for.”
Vicky then joined the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education Director, Colin Powell, Headteacher Christine Bernard and Chair of Governors Julia Pring for a 'Question Time' session, taking a wide range of questions from our children. Year 3 have been collaborating with Artists and developed their Artistic skills. As part of a 2 day workshop, the children worked as a team to produce 6 collages around the theme of ”Sparks”. They used magazines, paint and their environment as sources of inspiration for their work.
“We used painting, pressure blending and photographs to create a collage. Our group made a candle to represent the Love of Jesus and we used red and gold. We went to the Art Gallery to see our work and we made signs of different religions.” Andreanna, Year 3. |
