Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 enjoyed a magical Christmas experience. Set in the grounds of Lambeth Palace, they were led on a dramatic retelling of the nativity story, featuring real animals.
This year's Christmas Fayre was a huge success. Everyone had great fun and children enjoyed the wide variety of food, particularly the popcorn and candyfloss! Congratulations to all those who won one of our spectacular raffle prizes; these included a PS5, a laptop and lots of vouchers from our local community supporters.
Our amazing Choir performed to an audience of hundreds at Blackheath Concert Halls. Every member of the choir performed with confidence as they opened the evening's performance with 2 songs, which were sung beautifully. St Mary's also took part in 6 different group performances, alongside children from 10 other Lewisham schools.
All of the children from Year 1 to Year 6 enjoyed a special Christmas treat as we travelled to Greenwich Theatre for an exciting performance of 'Robin Hood'.
The children in our Faith Group met and decided to review the Spiritual Corners, which are a space for peace, prayer and reflection in every classroom. They carried out a survey in their class to ensure that every pupil's voice was captured. Next, they added new artefacts to the Spiritual Corners. Finally, they took cuttings from a spider plant to create a new plant for each class.
Congratulations to all of our children who practised hard, learnt their times table facts and took part in their class heats. 2 finalists from each class battled it out in front of the whole school to find our 2022 champions!
A very special service was held at St Mary's Church on Sunday 23rd October as fourteen of our children from St Mary's School celebrated their First Communion at St Mary's Church. We are blessed that Father Max has spent the last 2 months preparing the children, meeting with them each week and leading them in a programme of study and reflection. The children were welcomed by the St Mary's Church congregation and it was a special day for the children and their families.
Children loved our Black History Month theme ‘Time for change - Action not Words’ and learnt about past and present BAME figures in history. They learnt how to cook African and Caribbean recipes and play the Djembe Drums. The month ended in the children wearing their traditional dress and celebrating their hair as part of our celebrations.
Parents enjoyed sampling the food that the children have for lunch at school. Caterlink provide our hot lunches every day and chef Nana kindly prepared some lovely dishes.
Congratulations to our Athletics team who performed with skill and speed at a tournament held at Sydenham School. Our Year 5 and Year 6 athletes competed against local schools in field events (throwing and jumping) as well as a series of relay races.
