In Year 3 we have been testing different materials to see which one is the best insulator and which one can keep ice solid for longer. Our experiment showed that tin foil and bubble wrap are the best.
Now we know what to use to have cold beverages at our next picnic! Here are some photos of year 3’s trip to the National Maritime Museum, along with pictures of the children engaged with creating a magnet maze game (also linked with their topic of Pole to Pole this half term).
Congratulations to our Year 3 class who have been collecting food donations to support those in need in our local community. Building on the success of our annual Harvest Collection, the children decided to make this an ongoing project, recognising that there are people in need throughout the year. Year 3 class have made posters and visited each class to encourage contributions. When their box was full up, a group of children took the food to St Mary's Church ready for distribution. The children will continue to welcome any donations of tinned or dried goods - please help if you can.
The Gods Anubis and Horus are at war and only Cleopatra can avoid disaster (with some help from Year 3)! Using their mathematical skills of division, the children were able to share out Cleopatra's treasure equally, even when Sobek the crocodile God joined the conflict.
Well done to everyone who completed the home learning challenge to design and build a boat, using household materials. Year 3 enjoyed a lovely morning in the sunshine, testing out the boats to find out if they floated! The quality of the designs was excellent and the boats looked amazing. Several of the designs featured extra features such as propellers, sails and cabins.
Local officers from the Lewisham police force visited St Mary's this week. The children enjoyed petting the horses, having a ride on the motorcycle and looking inside the police car.
Every half-term, we focus on a different Problem Solving skill in Maths and this term we learned about Logical Reasoning. In worship, we worked as a team to solve equations using symbols and crack a secret code, linked to our Communication topic. Back in class, we solved these Sudoku style Maths problems, developing our resilience and teamwork.
We are very excited to have received these wonderful photos of our Year 3 children learning at home. Please send us a photo to admin@st-marys.lewisham.sch.uk and we will publish your learning for everyone to enjoy!
